Sfera rossa, 2003

Red rubber and tyre valve
26 × 26 × 26 cm
Metamorphosis
Sfera rossa is a hexahedron fitted with a tyre valve, emptied and then inflated with air. Although it retains traces of its original cubic shape, the edges and surfaces are now more rounded, thanks to a controlled deformation process. During inflation, the material gradually expanded to a slightly more spherical shape. However, as the starting material was a cube, the transformation is not complete. The edges and surfaces, although more rounded due to air pressure or tension in the elastic material, still retain distinctive features of the original cubic shape. Red Sphere invites us to reflect on the idea of transformation and metamorphosis, maintaining a link with the initial form while evolving into something new and distinctive.
