Defunctionalisation
The complete defunctionalisation of an object normally used in the industrial field occurs with Parassita funzionale , which - designed by the artist in its new application, without making any structural variations and installed by the normal workers of the manufacturing company in the spaces of the Galleria Fumagalli in the summer of 2003 - consisted of a sixty-metre long transport chain for things and objects. This element was used here as a system of symbolic and physical interconnection of hemispheres usually so distant from each other and with different if not contradictory contents (world of art, world of industry), of architectural compartments physically separated from each other (exhibition halls, offices, warehouses) and of roles (artist, engineer, secretary, installation worker, user, gallery owner, critic) not always in assonance with each other.
